MTN Nigeria Donates 550 Tablets to Students in Anambra Smart Schools

In a major boost to digital education in Nigeria, MTN Nigeria has partnered with the Anambra State Government to distribute 550 educational tablets to students in 11 smart schools across the state.

The donation—part of the state’s ambitious ‘Smart Learn’ Anambra Programme—was officially announced in a press statement on Wednesday by Mazi Ejimofor Opara, the Senior Special Adviser on New Media to Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

Each participating school received 50 tablets, designated for their digital libraries and learning hubs.

Bridging the Digital Divide

Opara emphasized that the initiative is a bold step toward bridging the digital divide and improving learning outcomes for students in both urban and rural areas of Anambra.

“The Smart Learn programme aims to equip our youth with the digital tools they need to thrive in a modern, tech-driven world,” he said. “This partnership demonstrates the shared commitment of MTN and the Anambra State Government to education, innovation, and youth empowerment.”

Leaders Unite for Education

The tablet handover ceremony was led by:

  • Chiamaka Nnake, Anambra’s Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning
  • Prof. Nkechi Perpetua Ikediugwu, Chairperson, Post Primary School Service Commission
  • Top executives from MTN Nigeria

Their joint presence underscored the public-private commitment to educational reform and access.

Why This Matters

The ‘Smart Learn’ Anambra programme is designed to:

  • Introduce students to interactive learning tools
  • Improve access to online educational resources
  • Support the state’s broader agenda for digital literacy and innovation

With education systems increasingly integrating technology, initiatives like these are crucial for preparing students for the future workforce.

Investing in the Future

MTN Nigeria’s donation not only boosts digital access but also reinforces its reputation for impactful corporate social responsibility (CSR). Over the years, MTN has supported various education and tech initiatives across Nigeria, helping to unlock opportunities for young people.

“This is about more than devices—it’s about access, equity, and empowerment,” said an MTN representative at the event.

Final Thoughts

The partnership between MTN and the Anambra State Government is a compelling example of how public-private collaboration can drive meaningful change in education.

As digital tools become essential to learning, investments like these are laying the groundwork for a smarter, more inclusive future in Nigeria.
