Enrique Anticipates “Special” PSG vs. Madrid Clash in Club World Cup Showdown

Wednesday, July 09, 2025, the world of football is buzzing! Paris Saint-Germain, fresh off a dominant season that saw them crowned European Champions, are gearing up for a colossal Club World Cup semi-final clash. Their opponent? None other than Real Madrid, adding a layer of history and intrigue to the already high-stakes encounter.

PSG’s Spanish head coach, Luis Enrique, didn’t mince words when asked about the upcoming battle, describing it as “special” in a press conference held at the MetLife Stadium, just outside of New York, the stage for this epic showdown.

“Playing against Real Madrid is always a special game,” Enrique acknowledged, his voice brimming with anticipation. “We are delighted to be playing in a game like this because it means we have done a good job up to now.”

The match-up is particularly captivating as it pits PSG, who conquered the Champions League this past season, against Real Madrid, now helmed by new coach Xabi Alonso. Adding more spice to the mix is the return of Kylian Mbappe, who departed PSG the season prior. When asked about the relationship with Mbappe, Enrique replied, “All I can say is that belongs in the past, it is behind us now.”

Enrique continued, “Lots of things make this a special game. This game is important because it is a Club World Cup semi-final. That makes it very interesting and we need to be ready to remain focused on the match.”

“We are very close to playing another final and that is a true motivation,” he added, hinting at the team’s drive for more glory. However, Enrique will need to make some strategic adjustments, as he’ll be without key defenders Willian Pacho and Lucas Hernandez, both sidelined due to red cards in the quarter-final victory over Bayern Munich.

While PSG looks to add yet another trophy to their collection, the Club World Cup marks a new beginning for Real Madrid.
