Wednesday, July 16, 2025 – Education in Abia State is about to get a serious upgrade! Today, we’re buzzing with the news that the Abia State Government has teamed up with Blue Giraffe Development Ltd to bring 20 cutting-edge “smart schools” to the state. This initiative promises to equip Abia’s students with the tools they need to thrive in the 21st century.
The announcement came after a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was signed on Saturday in Umuahia, marking a significant moment for the state’s educational future. Goodluck Ubochi, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, couldn’t hide his excitement, highlighting the project’s potential to transform learning.
So, what exactly makes these schools “smart”? We’re talking about interactive learning systems, computerised boards, blazing-fast internet, and even solar-powered electricity – a truly modern learning environment.
Each of the state’s 17 local government areas will house one of these smart schools, with the remaining three strategically placed across the three senatorial districts. The aim, according to Commissioner Ubochi, is to equip Abia children to compete with the best in the world. He expressed the government’s vision to transform all schools in Abia into smart schools over time.
Blue Giraffe’s Managing Director, Orieji Okwara-Emele, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to be involved in this exciting project, assuring the government that her team is committed to delivering outstanding results and aligning Abia’s education system with global standards.
The project rollout is planned in phases. The first batch of nine schools is expected to be ready between now and October. The second batch will follow in the final quarter of this year, with the final schools slated for the first quarter of next year.
This exciting development is a testament to the governor’s focus on education and his commitment to bringing 21st-century learning to the children of Abia State.
