It’s Thursday, July 10, 2025, and the political landscape is buzzing. Today’s headlines feature a surprising shift in allegiance, as Reno Omokri, formerly a prominent figure in the Goodluck Jonathan administration, has announced his intention to support President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 presidential election.
In a Wednesday interview with Channels TV, Omokri made his position clear, stating, “If an election is being held today and the candidates are Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, and Bola Tinubu, I will vote for Bola Tinubu.” He further emphasized his commitment, adding that he would not only cast his vote for Tinubu but would also actively campaign for his re-election, even dipping into his own pockets to support the cause.
This comes as a sharp contrast to Omokri’s past affiliations with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). However, he explained his change of heart, citing his disappointment with the PDP’s failure to deliver on its promises.
Omokri didn’t hold back his praise for the current President, describing Tinubu as a “transformational leader” and lauding his leadership style.
When pressed on his future plans should Tinubu be unsuccessful in 2027, Omokri was unfazed. He highlighted his business success and extensive travel, stating he would simply “keep doing what I’m doing.” He also reiterated his patriotic stance, drawing on his past actions to defend his country. “I am a man of means. I do not depend on the government. If Tinubu is no longer the president, and another person is the president, if he’s not doing what he is supposed to be doing, I will fight that person just like I fought Buhari,” he declared.
This declaration from Omokri is sure to spark fresh debate and conversation as we head closer to the 2027 election season.
