2027: Tussle over VP slot could distract Tinubu — APC chieftain warns

A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Mr. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has warned that premature political ambition for the Vice-President position in 2027 could derail President Bola Tinubu‘s focus on governance.

In a statement he personally signed, the former lawmaker cautioned politicians to halt early politicking and allow the President to focus on rebuilding Nigeria’s economy and tackling insecurity.

“Some individuals are already lobbying to become Vice President. The President is grappling with major challenges — from reviving the economy to fighting insurgency and improving national infrastructure,” Oyintiloye said.

He described the political maneuvering as a “nauseating distraction” that poses a serious risk to national progress, warning that unnecessary power struggles this early in the administration could undermine the gains made so far.

“The 2027 election is still over a year and a half away. Yet, political opportunists are making noise and disrupting governance. This must stop immediately,” he emphasized.

Support Needed, Not Power Struggles

Oyintiloye stressed that when Tinubu assumed office in 2023, he inherited a troubled economy characterized by a weakening naira, high debt, and an unsustainable fuel subsidy regime.

He urged politicians and citizens alike to support the President through cooperation, unity, and prayer — rather than contributing to political instability.

“What the President needs now is our collective support, not distractions over 2027 or even 2031. We must focus on recovery, not on politics,” he said.
